An established barbershop in Newcastle-under-Lyme have added a new service to their skillset in a bid to to promote confidence and self-assurance among men.
Opened in 2018 on Merrial Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, The Barber Life stands out as more than just a traditional barbershop having recently introduced male hair systems into its services.
An article about male hair loss and hair systems may have gained a smirk, are we right? That’s exactly the kind of taboo that Kyle and his team are looking to undo.
Despite the prevalence of women’s aesthetics such as nails, lashes and hair extensions being, there remains a lingering taboo surrounding male hair loss and the use of hair systems. Kyle, however, is on a mission to change that perception.
In a recent video on social media, The Barber Life shared the story of a client who bravely showcased his before-and-after transformation with a hair system. By sharing stories these stories, owner Kyle hopes to break down barriers and empower more men to consider hair systems as a viable option without feeling ashamed or embarrassed.
At The Barber Life, client comfort and privacy are paramount. Not all clients are comfortable with having their faces shown, and Kyle respects their preferences. The shop provides face shields for those willing to have photos taken but prefer to remain anonymous. Additionally, services are conducted in a completely private upstairs studio, ensuring a discreet and comfortable experience for each client.
Kyle’s ultimate goal is to promote confidence and self-assurance among men. By spreading awareness about hair systems and offering a safe space for men to explore this option, Kyle hopes to instil a sense of empowerment in every client;
“I try to promote confidence, if they don’t feel confident in themselves it’s irrelevant what anybody else may think about them. The more men that know about this service the more confidence we can spread, it’s ok to want to look good and be self confident.
My ultimate goal is to eventually be able to offer this service free for children who may be undergoing treatments or suffering from illness that cause hair loss. As a parent of two children myself, I can’t imagine the emotional toll this can take on both children and their parents and want to aim to offer this service for free to at least one child per month.”
