Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre has welcomed back a delightful new addition this week with the introduction of their ‘pop-up park’ outside the Guildhall on High Street, around the Market Cross area.
After the success of last year’s installation on Red Lion Square, this charming urban green space aims to enhance the look of the area visually as well as improve the overall ambience of the town, providing those working, shopping or socialising a relaxing and inviting atmosphere to enjoy quality time with friends and family.
“It’s so great to bring the Pop-Up Park back to Newcastle for the summer months” says Charlotte Pearce, BID Manager.
“Last year was a roaring success and we had nothing but positive feedback from those attending our weekly sessions. This is a green space in the town, for the town, and the feedback we’ve already had and the amount of people utilising the space has been great. The area brings a pop of colour and area of reprise to the High Street and we’re keen for people to utilise it. Whether thats reading a book, drinking a coffee from a local business or enjoying a bite to eat away from the office! During sunnier days we’ll also be popping out toys and books for children.
We do ask that those visiting the park think green and keep it clean by using bins located near the area for rubbish so that it remains a space that everyone can enjoy.”
The first of the summer activities to be held at the park will be held on Friday, 26th July from 11:30am with a poetry workshop led by former Staffordshire Poet Laureate Emily Rose. Celebrating our town, nature, and our community, families are invited to come and create your very own poem leaf to hang on the park’s Poet-Tree. All abilities are welcome, with plenty of prompts and tips to get the writing flowing. There will also be free ice cream for all participants, so fingers crossed for sunshine and no umbrellas! A full schedule of activities for the summer holidays will be advertised on the BID socials.
“We understand that school holidays can be costly to entertain and engage children and as such, the free activities will offer parents a cost-effective way to entertain children while staying in their local area” continues Charl Pearce.
