It’s time for us to celebrate the unique independent businesses of Newcastle-under-Lyme with the team at Totally Locally!  As part of the Magic Tenner campaign, we’ll be joining with our local independents to support some incredible deals.

Now, you might be wondering, “What’s this Magic Tenner all about?” let’s explain:

The Magic Tenner Campaign is all about supporting our local businesses. It’s simple yet oh-so-amazing! Participating businesses in Newcastle-under-Lyme have come up with some fantastic offers for just ten pounds.

But wait, there’s more!  Independent businesses buy from many other local businesses, too, so spending £10 with one enables them to keep buying from those suppliers; the money goes round and round Newcastle’s local economy.

Alongside the superb £10 offers, shops will be displaying posters showing how many local suppliers they have, to show how supporting one local business supports many. These businesses can include makers, growers, accountants, electricians, in fact any local suppliers at all even where they buy their lunch!

The ‘money go round’ is what makes Newcastle-under-Lyme thrive.

This is important as it strengthens our high street and helps hundreds of small businesses thrive, making our Borough a better place to live, work and visit. Buying online or at the big national chains & supermarkets has a much smaller effect, as most (or all) of the money leaves the local economy the minute you buy something.

How does it work?

Generating £50 from £10 seems a bit far-fetched, but it’s because most local indie businesses choose to spend their money in lots of other local businesses, so the money goes round and around your town’s economy. We’ve had some totally locally businesses who have over 200 local suppliers, so you see spending with them means a huge impact for your town, region or area, compared to when you spend online, with big corporates or supermarkets where most of the money goes to shareholders and central offices. (We do take into account local wages, but it is still a huge difference).
