Food & Drink Fest Comes to Newcastle-under-Lyme

Food lovers of Staffordshire and beyond, prepare yourself for a day of delicious dishes and drinks as Castle Food & Drink Fest arrives in Newcastle-under-Lyme for the August Bank Holiday Saturday.

This brand new event, held on the Ironmarket and High Street, promises a day filled with mouth watering street food, artisan markets, activities and crafts for children, food demonstrations, workshops and live music.

Delivered as a collaboration between Newcastle-under-Lyme BID and Independent Street with support from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, and Castle Food & Drink Fest is designed to celebrate the town’s growing food and drink scene.

Independent Street, known for its successful events in the North West, champions local independent businesses and produce, providing a platform for small businesses to showcase their offerings to the local community.

Attendees can expect an array of food traders featuring an eclectic mix of cuisines, including handmade dumplings, Filipino street food, hand pressed toasties, biltong, taste tingling cheese truckles, handmade marshmallow and fudges, gluten free and vegan, artisan gins, wood fired pizzas, local honey, samosas and onion bhajis the size of cannon balls, olives, mezze, Turkish delights and Baklava, hog roast, sourdough breads, cakes, bakes, handmade Portuguese delicacies, Chutneys and sauces made from old family recipes, tasty tipples, coffee to blow away the cobwebs and much more!… The event will not only offer an opportunity to indulge in some delicious food from a selection of traders but also offer an opportunity to learn about the origins of your food, meet the talented makers and bakers, and engage in enriching conversations with traders and the event team.

If arts and craft is something you are after, there will be a delightful mix of local artisan traders built to inspire. Expect local artists, crafters, handmade artisan candles and hand created jewellery for the perfect gifts or to treat yourself.

Lisa Cowley of Independent Street shares her excitement:

We are delighted to have been asked to collaborate on a new annual event for the heart of Newcastle Under Lyme.  An event like this is a great way to showcase local talent whilst also boosting footfall to the town centre. The day will be packed full of local artisan producers and foodies. Pop along and join us and soak up the atmosphere. It is a superb opportunity to find out the origins of your food, feast your eyes upon some goodies and fill those shopping bags. There is something for the whole family and best of all, it’s free entry!

Charl Pearce, BID Manager, adds: “Let’s face it, we’re a nation of foodies and Newcastle’s food and drink offering is continually growing. This festival is a fantastic way to bring in a variety of street foods to the town as well as celebrate local offerings. We are delighted to collaborate with Independent Street and look forward to seeing everyone at the event.”

The festival promises a family-friendly atmosphere with plenty of activities to keep children entertained while parents explore the market. Food and drink demos and workshops will cater to all ages, making it a perfect day out for the entire family.
