Newcastle-under-Lyme BID will be welcoming the public to the town centre to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with an open air cinema screen on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3nd June.

With a backdrop of the historic Guildhall, the public will be able to enjoy a live stream of BBC Jubilee coverage from 10am on both days followed by two family-friendly films completely free of charge.  At 2pm spectators will be treated to a right royal showing of The Queen’s Corgis and from 5pm, hit musical The Greatest Showman paying homage to the town centre’s circus heritage.  On the Sunday, the festivities will continue at 2pm with Pixar’s Coco and the cinema celebrations will be drawing to a close at 5pm with musical romantic comedy, Mamma Mia!

Street food will be available for purchase from the Castle Artisan team as well as face painting and small Jubilee themed crafts for children. The BID are welcoming people to bring their own seats and picnic blankets to enjoy the films.

Newcastle-under-Lyme BID Marketing Manager Charlotte Pearce says “We are delighted to welcome the public to our Outdoor Cinema to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and Bank Holiday.  We are very excited to bring the big screen to Newcastle town centre and offer a unique experience for people of all ages that is available free of charge.  Our Outdoor Cinema is one of the ongoing events in the town centre that is hosted by the BID and funded by the town centre businesses.

We really hope the people of Newcastle-under-Lyme and beyond will turn out in support as these events are the perfect opportunity to showcase the range of hardworking retail, hospitality, and leisure businesses in the town centre.”

The Jubilee Celebrations continue over the weekend on the 4th and 5th with much of the entertainment in the town provided by Friends of the Guildhall courtesy of National Lottery Funding.   The Guildhall will be open over the four days from 10am to 4pm for viewing entries of the Children’s Art Competition and memorabilia from the Queen’s 70-year reign. There will also be quizzes and crafts for kids.

There are drumming workshops, coronations, storytelling and period films screened by Ray Johnson of the Staffordshire Film Archive on Saturday, and chorus performances, belly dancing, magic shows and face painting on the Sunday alongside with the much loved Castle Artisan taking over the stones alongside a charity and plant market.

In the surrounding borough, the Brampton Museum will host a 1950’s day on the Saturday including a series of free film screenings, including royal visits over the years and a dance performance by Baker Street Belle and DJ Swan.  Sunday afternoon welcomes the Big Jubilee Lunch where visitors can picnic at The Little Vintage Tea Room from 1:30pm to 5:00pm.

For those driving into the town centre for the open air cinema, parking on all council owned car parks is £1 after 1pm allowing more visitors to enjoy the day without having to worry about parking costs.
